Project Summary
The single-story Freetown Sierra Leone Temple will be approximately 1,672 square meters (18,000 square feet). A two-story ancillary building will also be constructed, housing an arrival center, patron housing, presidency apartments, ordinance worker apartments, and utility functions. The exterior is clad in light-hued stone, its symmetrical façade anchored by an arched entry and crowned with a slender spire, serving as a landmark of spiritual presence against the city’s hillside backdrop.
Landscaping of palms and flowering gardens reinforces its connection to the lush West African context, softening the monumental form. Inside, spaces are characterized by warmth and clarity: timber joinery, patterned carpets, and stained-glass windows in geometric motifs echo both sacred symbolism and local craft traditions. High ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and careful daylighting elevate the interiors into serene, contemplative environments, while soft palettes of cream and gold are accented by vibrant textiles. Together, architecture and interior design embody reverence, permanence, and belonging, establishing the temple as a beacon of faith deeply rooted within Sierra Leone’s cultural and natural landscape.
